Similar Aquarium Plants

Anubias barteri var. barteri

Very popular plant for aquariums with low lighting. While this plant will thrive under higher light intensitiy, a darker spot is preferred to avoid algae on the slow-growing leaves.

Anubias barteri var. nana

Beautiful foreground plant and very suitable for tying to driftwood or stones in low-light aquariums. Highly recommended for underplanting of large specimen plants such as Echinodorus species. A. barteri is very slow growing and will thus keep an aquascape looking good without much care at all. The second image shows a sumberged plant after about 8 months.

Anubias barteri var. nana 'Gold'

This beautiful variety of Anubias nana has light green, almost yellow foliage. Its culture requirements are similar to those of the species with its growth being even slower. A valuable addition not just for aquariums with lots of green leaved Anubias.

Aegagropila linnaei
(Cladophora aegagropila)

This is not actually a moss but an alga - obviously the only one that is desired in the aquarium. The individual balls are placed loosely on the substrae or decoration. This non-invasive alga can be grown under a broad range of conditions and is propagated by division. If you want to learn more about this fascinating alga (including its new name), please read this article in Wikipedia.

Fissidens fontanus

This moss is fast gaining popularity despite its relatively short stop in our shop. It will grow under a variety of conditions and attaches well to different substrates (even if it does not cling to it as firmly as Taiphyllum species). With its fern-like thalli, it looks great in all types of aquarium layouts. Trim large clumps with sharp scissors, preferably before it becomes too massive and thin underneath as it will more easily detach from its substrate when it is in that state.
